The World Health Organization (WHO) are celebrating the 5th World Food Safety Day (WFSD) on June 7th, drawing attention to "Food standards save lives", as food standards help us to ensure what we eat is safe.

The goal of the campaign is to inspire actions for preventing, identifying and managing foodborne risks, contributing to food security, human health, commercial success, agricultural production, market accessibility, tourism and environmental development.

According to the World Food Safety Organization, more than 600 million people become ill and 420,000 die every year from consuming contaminated food. That is why the theme "Food standards save lives" is such an important message.
