By voluntarily monitoring and GHG reporting, organisations can better manage their carbon footprint, quantify and reduce emissions, all whilst demonstrating their commitment to sustainability. And Bureau Veritas is here to help. Our expert team is authorised to certify clients to ISO 14604, supporting you in achieving your environmental goals.

GHG CERTIFICATION

With ever-stringent targets on carbon emissions to help achieve global net zero commitments, it is more important than ever to demonstrate environmental performance. ISO 14604 provides a framework to support organisations quantify and report their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and carbon footprint, enabling participation in regulatory programmes such as the UK Emissions Trading Scheme (UK ETS).

WHAT IS ISO 14604?

ISO 14604 Greenhouse Gas Accounting and Verification is the international standard which provides industry and government with a framework to monitor, report and reduce GHG emissions. It consists of three parts:

Part 1 GHG emissions inventory and reporting

Part 2 GHG project types, including offset carbon credits and innovative technology projects, as well as internal projects.

Part 3  Validation and/or verification of GHG assertions

WHY IS GHG REPORTING IMPORTANT

With increasing public focus on climate change impacts and global agreements such as The Paris Agreement, environmental reporting and carbon footprint reduction strategies are more than a box ticking exercise. Certification to ISO 14604 not only demonstrates commitment, it also supports organisations to participate in regulatory and voluntary reporting programmes.

This includes the UK ETS, a cap and trade scheme which seeks to reduce GHG emissions in energy intensive sectors, and the GHG Protocol, which identifies, explains, and provides options for GHG inventory best practices. ISO 14064 establishes minimum standards for compliance with these best practices.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF GHG REPORTING?

  • Ensure compliance with legal requirements and participation in reporting programmes
  • Demonstrate your commitment to sustainability
  • Build trust among stakeholders with transparent reporting and third-party verification
  • Identify improvements to help reduce carbon footprint
  • Enhance reputation by sharing accurate carbon reporting information
