Safety Critical Element (SCE) Identification

Safety Critical Element (SCE) Identification

SCEs are those barriers or control measures that can contribute, prevent/ mitigate the Major Hazard Events (MAEs) and are grouped based on their operational function and behaviour during MAEs (prevention, detection, control and mitigation measures). The main purpose of SCE identification is to ensure that the most critical safety systems and components are properly managed, maintained, and tested to prevent major accidents or mitigate their consequences.

Our SCE identification services:

  • Develop comprehensive bow-tie diagram to provide visual representations of the connections between potential causes and their respective consequences, and the safety barriers in place.
  • Identification of the control systems and safeguards which may contribute, prevent/ mitigate the Major Hazard Events (MAEs)
  • Grouping Safety Critical Systems (SCEs) by operational function and behaviour during MAEs.
  • Defining key Integrity Criteria (Performance Standards) of the SCEs to ensure the safety of the hazardous facility.
