GREEN HOUSE GAS REPORTING
What is GHG Reporting?
Bureau Veritas provides end-to-end GHG reporting support, from first-time baseline inventories through to verified, regulation-aligned programmes across Scopes 1, 2 and 3. We are one of the few providers that can both build your reporting and independently verify it, including preparation for UK SRS and SECR compliance.

Coverage Across All Three Scopes
A credible emissions inventory requires a precise definition of what is in scope. We support organisations across all three GHG reporting scopes, aligned to the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard and ISO 14064.
-
Scope 1 Direct Emissions:
Emissions from sources owned or controlled by your organisation, combustion, process emissions and fugitive releases. Typically, the most straightforward to measure and the starting point for any inventory.
-
Scope 2 Purchased Energy:
Indirect emissions from purchased electricity, heat, steam or cooling. We calculate using both the market-based method (supplier-specific emission factors, energy attribute certificates) and the location-based method (grid-average factors), enabling full disclosure under CDP, UK SRS and SECR.
-
Scope 3 Value Chain Emissions:
All upstream and downstream value chain emissions across the 15 GHG Protocol categories, purchased goods and services, logistics, business travel, employee commuting, use of sold products and end-of-life disposal. For most organisations, Scope 3 accounts for 70–90% of total emissions and is the critical focus for SBTi-aligned target-setting.
Our Full GHG Reporting Support
We provide support across the full emissions lifecycle, delivering decision-ready data at every stage, from first defining what you are measuring through to demonstrating progress against your commitments.
Boundary definition and emissions scoping:
Establishing which entities, operations and emission sources fall within your footprint. These decisions shape everything that follows and need to be defensible from the outset.
Identification of data sources and management of data gaps:
Real-world emissions data is rarely complete or consistent. We identify the right sources across your operations and value chain, and manage gaps transparently, a critical part of building a credible inventory.
Calculation of emissions across Scopes 1, 2 and 3:
Whether at the organisational, project or product level, we calculate your full emissions inventory and carry out hotspot analysis to identify where emissions are most concentrated and where action will have the greatest impact.
Target-setting aligned with business strategy and recognised frameworks: Informed by hotspot analysis, we support target-setting that is both credible and achievable, aligned to your strategic priorities and the frameworks that matter to your stakeholders.
Preparation of high-quality reporting:
We translate your inventory and targets into reporting materials aligned to whichever voluntary or regulatory frameworks are relevant to your organisation.
Ongoing monitoring and progress assessment:
Each reporting cycle builds on the last. We support continuous improvement in data quality and help you demonstrate measurable progress against your commitment.
Our Baseline Assurance Process
We structure engagements around a proven delivery framework, with each stage building on the last to deliver continuously improving data quality and strategic clarity.

Why GHG & Carbon Reporting Matters
Calculating and disclosing emissions is not simply about meeting obligations. Organisations that build credible reporting programmes gain a competitive and strategic advantage. Find out more about common pitfalls in carbon reporting here.
-
Regulatory Readiness:
The UK Sustainability Reporting Standards (UK SRS) are establishing mandatory disclosure requirements for a growing proportion of companies. Organisations that have invested in robust reporting infrastructure are far better placed to comply without disruption.
-
Investor and Customer Expectations:
Institutional investors increasingly integrate climate risk into portfolio decisions. Procurement teams at large corporations require emissions data from their suppliers. Organisations that cannot provide credible, verified data risk losing contracts.
-
Target-setting and Net Zero Strategy:
You cannot manage what you have not measured. A high-quality emissions inventory provides the baseline from which reduction targets are set, net zero and decarbonisation investments are prioritised, and progress is tracked year on year.
-
Supply Chain Engagement:
Identifying the highest-emission activities and suppliers in your value chain enables organisations to focus engagement and procurement decisions where they will have the greatest impact. This is increasingly required for alignment with the Science-Based Targets Initiative (SBTi).
-
Operational Efficiency:
High-emission activities are often energy-intensive and operationally inefficient. Emissions measurement frequently surfaces opportunities to reduce costs alongside carbon.
