I love the people I work with and the active nature of the role. We are operational investigators and responders, so no two days are the same!
Could you describe your career path and current position at Bureau Veritas UK?
I’ve always been interested in the sciences. I completed an undergraduate degree in chemistry and then a Masters in forensic science. I wanted a job which would combine the two, so fire investigation and providing chemical advice felt like the perfect job for me!
In your day-to-day work, how do you contribute to Shaping a World of Trust?
Every day we undertake work for London Fire Brigade and numerous other Fire and Rescue Services around the UK. If the advice we provide is not correct then it could have catastrophic effects. We work closely together as a team to ensure feedback is valid and ensuring safety as a priority.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
I love the people I work with and the active nature of the role. We are operational investigators and responders, so no two days are the same!
What has been a personal highlight since joining us?
My personal highlight has been achieving my Certified Fire Investigator qualification with the International Association of Arson Investigators (IAAI). I started at BV with little knowledge of fire investigation and found it difficult and exciting to learn. There is a great amount to learn including reading fire patterns, understanding fire movement within compartments and through different materials, understanding electrical pathways through circuits and different faults and failures which can occur. I have put a large amount of time into learning and improving my skills within this area and feel that this certification is a recognition of the hard work I have put in to understand my job role to the best I can.
What would you say to someone considering a career with us?
There are a variety of job roles and departments within the company, allowing you to align your knowledge and expertise to an area which you find engaging, and ensuring growth and enjoyment at work.
What do you do outside of work to have fun?
Outside of work I am a member of the Holmesdale Parakeets football team, we play weekly 11-a-side competitive games in a league.
