UNDERSTANDING THE BUILDING SAFETY BILL: A BUREAU VERITAS WEBINAR

Aug. 26 2021

With the Building Safety Bill now published and Planning Gateway One now in place, there are a number of critical safety changes that those in the construction industry must be aware of when working on tall buildings.

As experts in fire safety and building safety, our specialist Construction Consultancy team supports clients to understand the changes and maintain compliance. Now we’re hosting a free webinar to explore the detail of The Building Safety Bill, including what you need to do now, and in the future, to ensure safety and maintain compliance.

A new safety regime

The upcoming Building Safety Bill will establish a new building safety regime in England, following recommendations set out in the Hackitt Review. As many in the industry will be aware, three gateways are set to be introduced to enhance fire safety in tall residential buildings and each gateway must be signed off by the new building safety regulator before moving on to the next.

The first changes already apply, with the introduction of Gateway One (Planning) through amendments to existing planning legislation. As part of this, a number of new requirements will be introduced to the planning system, including the requirement to include a fire statement when applying for planning permission for high rise residential buildings. Further changes will be introduced as the Bill passes through Parliament.
