BUREAU VERITAS REAPPOINTED TO MANAGE NIGERIA'S VOC SERVICES

Oct. 6 2022

Bureau Veritas is pleased to announce that the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has renewed our appointment to provide pre-export Verification of Conformity (VOC) of imported products into Nigeria, as per the SON Conformity Assessment Programme (SONCAP). The initial appointment was made in 2018 and renewed this year, demonstrating Bureau Veritas’ success at implementing successful Verification of Conformity programmes.

Working with exporters, Bureau Veritas will continue to ensure imported products meet Nigerian Industrial Standards (NIS), approved equivalent standards and national deviations.

Verification of Conformity is vital to improving the quality of products through compliance with the NIS or approved standards before export to Nigeria, helping protect consumers against dangerous, sub-standard or counterfeit products, and protecting domestic industry from unfair competition of poor-quality imports. Additionally, the Verification of Conformity can help ease trade operations by recognising existing conformity proof to avoid unnecessary re-testing.

The scope of work includes a broad group of products, including chemicals, footwear, toys and childcare products, mechanical goods, electronics, vehicles, tobacco products, and gas and kerosene stove accessories.

The assessment of goods includes documentary review, control testing, inspection, witnessing loading, sealing and facilitation procedures, including registration and licensing. Once approved for export, Bureau Veritas’ specialist Certification & Government Services team issue the relevant certificates that enable shipments to be imported into Nigeria.
