The Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust

As Devon's largest employer with over 15,000 staff, it serves more than 615,000 people across 2,000+ square miles. CLIENT CHALLENGE

Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust was implementing their comprehensive "Green Plan 2020-2025" sustainability strategy and required robust air quality data to support their environmental commitments. Working in partnership with North Devon District Council, they needed professional monitoring of ambient air quality at three key locations around North Devon District Hospital where poor air quality was suspected due to idling vehicles and high traffic volumes.

The Trust faced the challenge of obtaining accurate, industry-standard air quality data that would satisfy both their Green Plan requirements and support an Apprentice Environmental Health Practitioner's final year degree project.

They required a monitoring solution that could withstand the challenges of a busy hospital environment whilst delivering reliable, defensible results over an extended 12-month period.

The project demanded expertise in environmental monitoring methodologies, laboratory collaboration, and the ability to adapt to unforeseen circumstances such as equipment vandalism, whilst maintaining data integrity throughout the monitoring period and ensuring both client organisations remained fully informed.
