Corrosive Materials Acids and Bases

OBJECTIVES

By the end of this 1-day course, which incorporates a mixture of presentation, case studies, practical and table-top exercises, participants will be able to:
  • Describe the terms acid and base, and identify the presence of these at incidents
  • Demonstrate a level of understanding of the term pH, its measurement and its relevance
  • Achieve an understanding of the properties of and hazards presented by particular acids and bases and how
  • These impact on specific incidents e.g. spills, corrosive attacks
  • Apply incident management techniques and methods to aid incident resolution

WHO THE COURSE IS FOR?

This course is aimed at Fire Officers and other Emergency Service personnel who are required to attend
incidents, where corrosive materials, namely acids and bases have been involved. This course is particularly
useful as a refresher to those who have already undergone HAZCHEM training.
