PRESS RELEASE: Bureau Veritas Supports DNB in the Evolution of Its Green Loan Framework

Apr. 23 2026

Bureau Veritas, a global leader in testing, inspection, certification and sustainability advisory services, has announced the successful completion of its collaboration with DNB Bank ASA in the latest update of its Green Loan Framework (v5.1), strengthening alignment with evolving regulatory expectations and market practice, while enhancing operational clarity across key sectors of the Norwegian and Nordic economy.

The engagement focused on a technical review and refinement of DNB’s existing framework, supporting the Bank as it navigated increasing complexity across the EU Taxonomy requirements, Green Loan Principles (GLP), and emerging transition and circular economy considerations. The updated framework reflects DNB’s ambition to ensure its green lending criteria remain credible, transparent, and practically applicable for both internal teams and clients.

The project marks the first formal engagement between the two organisations and reflects a shared commitment to strengthening market integrity, advancing taxonomy-aligned financing and supporting the transition to a low-carbon economy. The work included an in-depth gap assessment, sector-specific analysis, a taxonomy alignment review and a series of thematic workshops covering strategic sectors such as energy infrastructure, EU taxonomy, and circular economy.

DNB highlighted Bureau Veritas’ pragmatic and collaborative approach, emphasising constructive technical dialogue, responsiveness and strong sector expertise - particularly in circularity and the EU Taxonomy - demonstrated throughout the engagement. As reflected in DNB’s published Green Loan Framework (v5.1), the updated framework introduces greater clarity and consistency in financed activity definitions, strengthens alignment with EU Taxonomy technical screening criteria and improves usability for lending teams assessing both large corporate and SME transactions.

Mari Kvivesen Johansen at DNB Bank ASA comments on the collaboration:

“This collaboration with Bureau Veritas has strengthened how we approach the ongoing development of our sustainable finance frameworks. From the outset, their team brought a pragmatic, solutions-oriented mindset that we found both refreshing and highly valuable. Their ability to challenge ideas constructively, translate complex regulation into practical guidance and engage deeply with our sector experts contributed meaningfully to the quality of our updated Green Loan Framework.
We particularly appreciated their responsiveness, the depth of their industry expertise - especially within energy, real estate and the EU Taxonomy - and the thoughtful thematic workshops, which helped us review and refine our portfolio criteria through a more technical lens. Bureau Veritas has proven to be a trusted and collaborative partner, and we look forward to exploring further opportunities together, including ongoing knowledge-sharing initiatives.”

“Working with DNB on the evolution of their Green Loan Framework has been a genuinely collaborative experience. DNB’s commitment to rigorous standards, sector alignment and practical, market-ready sustainability criteria allowed us to engage in the kind of open, technical dialogue that leads to meaningful progress.

Through detailed taxonomy analysis, sector-specific review and thematic workshops, we supported DNB in refining and operationalising their framework, resulting in criteria that are more resilient, better aligned with evolving regulation and more usable for day-to-day lending decisions. We’re proud to have supported DNB on this journey and look forward to continuing the partnership as the sustainable finance landscape develops.”

“This collaboration demonstrates the strong sector and technical expertise Bureau Veritas brings, alongside our ability to translate complex regulatory requirements into clear, actionable recommendations. Our capabilities and solutions span from diagnostics, advisory, performance monitoring, and certification. Our advantage comes from being grounded in operational reality – closer to customers, the complexities they face, and how to implement for their business.

It also highlights how financial institutions like DNB can apply sophisticated frameworks in a more practical and operational way, supporting the consistent integration of sustainability considerations across their lending activities.”
