KEY TRENDS UNCOVERED IN EV CHARGING POINT SURVEY

Nov. 11 2024

In a recent survey of 325 electric vehicle (EV) charging point installations, Bureau Veritas uncovered some concerning trends that highlight the need for greater quality control and safety measures in the rollout of EV charging infrastructure.

The key findings from the survey are outlined in Bureau Veritas' latest EV Insights whitepaper, which is now available for download.

Some of the most alarming statistics include:
  • EVCP

    of 325 EVCP inspected

    55%

    had no documentation

  • EVCP

    of 325 EVCP inspected

    20%

had serious Cat 1, Cat 2 or FI defects

  • EVCP

    of 325 EVCP inspected

    29%

    did not have protective barriers

The stats show that despite most of these installations being only a few years old, many of them have significant issues affecting the safety of staff and visitors. Over 20% of installations are dangerous or potentially dangerous and need urgent attention.

These findings underscore the critical need for greater quality control, compliance and safety measures as the UK accelerates its rollout of electric vehicle charging infrastructure to support the transition to zero-emission mobility.
