Bureau Veritas UK

As soon as I started my internship my colleagues made me realise that the people around you are supportive, friendly and easy to talk to. Because of this, I have a new vision of work life that is more reassuring for the future.

What drew you to an internship at Bureau Veritas UK?

Hearing my uncle talk about activities and the mission at Bureau Veritas in Paris, I was interested in the company and wanted to experience that myself. And as I spent my year studying in London, I also wanted to work in the UK to get valuable industry experience.

What have been the most challenging aspects of your internship so far, and how have you grown professionally by overcoming these challenges?

I would say that one of the biggest challenges is keeping and maintaining a schedule. This year, apart from the lectures, I can work flexibly at Bureau Veritas which is beneficial considering I am still in education. Following a defined schedule has enabled and strengthened my productivity and ability to concentrate.

What has been a personal highlight since joining us?

Being a first-year student, you usually see working in a large business as a big step forward in my progression and to me was quite a serious and significant step. However, as soon as I started my internship my colleagues made me realise that the people around you are supportive, friendly and easy to talk to. Because of this, I have a new vision of work life that is more reassuring for the future.

How do you see the organization's values reflected in your daily work?

One value that reflects me more so would be “ambitious and humble”. Even if there is a hierarchy as in every company, I have been able to talk to everyone and felt welcome by all the team. By getting to know more and more people I have learned a lot about their backgrounds, motivations, and ambitions and recognise how diverse Bureau Veritas truly is.

How has your internship at Bureau Veritas UK helped you grow your skills and knowledge, and how do you see these experiences impacting your future career goals?

When I started my internship at Bureau Veritas, I only knew academic principles and business and management theories. In a few weeks, I learned how and when to apply this knowledge. Beyond that, I have also learned that you need to know what value you are providing as a business and in this way, knowing the theories is not all of it, it's the practical knowledge and experience required to leave a positive impact as Bureau Veritas does. You also must know the capacity and unique value of each team member and understand our client's needs to deliver the best service possible.

Outside of work, what are some of the activities you do to have fun?

I have always been fascinated by aeroplanes, so during the weekends I like to go near Heathrow Airport to spot planes. Plus, I enjoy visiting London, finding new places with my friends or just having a walk in one of the numerous parks in the city.
