OUR PEOPLE - CLARE BLYTH
A career story with Clare Blyth, Certification Director in the UK.
Certification Director
Bureau Veritas UK
I love the operational side of my role, being involved with clients and empowering our people. Inclusivity is a huge thing for me, keeping our people and our clients well informed, adding value and looking to develop relationships no matter what is needed.
Could you describe your career path and current position at Bureau Veritas UK?
I joined the business in 2015 as a lead auditor, auditing our clients in quality, food safety, environment, health and safety and ethics. After some time, I progressed to the Auditor Team Manager role and then became a Certification Manager. Most recently, I have taken on the UK Certification Director role.
The path I have taken is a great example of the opportunities available within Bureau Veritas UK and how the business supports personnel in their careers.
In your day-to-day work, how do you contribute to Shaping a World of Trust?
Trust is embedded in the Certification business ways of working. It is imperative to shape a world of trust with our clients as they rely on us to certify their systems and identify areas of improvement. We are only able to enable this by our expert people. Our people are the heart of what we do and have differing regular touch points with our client base from all stages of operations from sales, planning, inspection execution, aftercare and certification management, and invoicing and training.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
I love the operational side of the role, being involved with clients and empowering our people. Inclusivity is a huge thing for me, keeping our people and our clients well informed, adding value and looking to develop relationships no matter what is needed.
Not everyone enjoys people management and interaction, but I simply love it.
What has been a personal highlight since joining us?
A highlight has got to be starting a mature graduate packaging auditor programme. To be an Auditor, you need to have several years of experience. Considering this fact, we have recently embraced taking a production operative from the packaging industry and upskilling them to be an Auditor. This programme has been in successful operation since last year, and as the trainee auditor has embraced the opportunity, we hope to continue replicating the programme moving forward.
What would you say to someone considering a career with us?
Bureau Veritas is a wide-reaching organisation that continually develops its growth potential, as the opportunities to branch out both nationally and internationally are vast.
If you want to develop or undergo training in an alternative area of the business or move to areas of more responsibility, Bureau Veritas can and wants to support you and your training and development.
What do you do outside of work to have fun?
Outside of work, I love sports, especially watching rugby union (although I played for over 20 years), running, eating, reading, and travelling. I like to combine activities where I can.
