EV Charging Points

Like any fixed electrical installation, Duty Holders are required under the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 (EAWR) to ensure the safety of EV charging points. This includes maintaining electric vehicle systems to prevent, so far as is reasonably practicable, any danger to employees, visitors or other persons.

CLIENT CHALLENGE

Our client is a global technology leader with office locations worldwide and a market leading presence in the technology sector. Like many forward-thinking organisations, it has introduced EV charging points to its workplaces, offering on-site charging facilities for fleet, employees and visitors as the number of EVs on UK roads continues to grow.

As an electrical installation, EV charging points should be regularly maintained and assessed in line with electrical safety regulations.

In many cases a maintenance contract will be put in place, but regular testing and inspection of EV charging points should also be carried out to maintain safety and compliance.

The client faced the challenge of ensuring the safety and compliance of their EV charging infrastructure across their office locations. With no previous reports or documentation available, the compliance status of these installations was unknown. This lack of information posed potential safety risks and compliance issues that needed to be addressed promptly.
