Why should I join Bureau Veritas Apprenticeship Scheme?

You will gain the skills, knowledge, and real-world experience that you need to succeed in your chosen role as a Dual-qualified Engineer Surveyor, learning on the job whilst earning a salary.

The Bureau Veritas Apprenticeship Scheme will provide you with the chance to gain an industry-recognised qualification with the full support of a global market leader.

Is there an intake date and how long is the scheme?

The next intake date will be January 2023. The apprenticeship is a two-year programme (approximately 24-26 months), and you will learn and progress with your cohort throughout that period.

What are the minimum requirements to apply?

A Level 3 engineering qualification and some hands-on engineering experience is essential for all applicants.

Is there an age requirement?

There are no age restrictions on who can apply. Bureau Veritas is an equal-opportunity employer. 

What is the recruitment/interview process?

The process begins with a telephone conversation to review your initial application. Providing the programme criteria is met and you would like to progress, you will be invited to complete an online aptitude test.

We will then welcome you to our Manchester office where you will meet members of the management team, learn about Bureau Veritas and be given an initial introduction to the apprenticeship programme. This is followed by a competency-based operational interview.

How is the Level 4 course delivered?

The Level 4 Engineer Surveyor course will be delivered online by our training partner Compass Skills Training Limited

You will be given appropriate time to complete the course work, alongside additional coaching and support tailored to you throughout the duration.

Who will be training me?

Your field-based and operational training will be delivered in-house at Bureau Veritas and via carefully selected training partners. You will be provided with clear training plans throughout.

How will I be assessed?

All apprentices must complete an End Point Assessment (EPA) at the end of their apprenticeship to demonstrate what they have learned and to show they can competently perform all parts of their duties.

This assessment will be undertaken by an independent End Point Assessment organisation.

The EPA includes a combination of the following:

• Site observations carried out at ‘active’ client premises
• Written and oral questioning
• Multiple choice questions
• Professional discussions

What support will I be given?

Bureau Veritas is committed to supporting you throughout your apprenticeship programme. We have a well-established employee support network which you will have full access to, and we will coordinate monthly review meetings to ensure you are progressing as expected.

You will receive both groups and tailored individual support, alongside close supervision and coaching to ensure that you are progressing in line with the expectations of the programme. All apprentices will also be assigned a mentor.

Will there be periods of time when I am learning/training away from home?

During your time at Bureau Veritas, there will be a period of field-based training, where there may be a requirement for you to stay away from home. In addition, we have our dedicated BV Training School in Peterborough where you will complete a series of training courses as part of the programme. This may also require some overnight stays.

Where required all accommodation and travel expenses will be paid by Bureau Veritas.

Will my salary increase when I have completed the scheme?

Upon successful completion of the programme, your salary will increase in line with the salary banding for our qualified dual discipline surveyors (currently £40,000 - £43,000)

How much holiday will I have?

You will be entitled to 25 days of annual holiday, plus bank holidays. There is also an option to buy or sell five days of leave per year, subject to manager approval.

Will I have a company car?

Yes, all apprentices will be entitled to a company car.

This is fully insured, and the fleet is managed by Bureau Veritas. The vehicle can be used for personal mileage, and you will be supplied with a fuel card.

What benefits will I be entitled to whilst on the scheme?

You will be entitled to all the same benefits as our current Engineer Surveyors, which include but are not limited to a company car and fuel card, access to the group personal pension scheme, life assurance, private healthcare, dental insurance, Cycle to Work scheme, tech scheme and two days allocated for volunteering.

On completion of the apprenticeship, could I continue studying?

Following the completion of your apprenticeship, we encourage all employees to undertake Continuous Professional Development.

We are proud to offer a structured development programme for all roles, this includes sponsoring engineers to complete further study where applicable and supporting employees through professional qualifications such as IEng and CEng from the Engineering Council.

We have developed structured career development paths for Mechanical Engineer Surveyors, which shows the path required to progress from Category 3 engineers to Category 2 engineers and from Category 2 engineers to technical leadership or operations management roles.

Do I have to work for Bureau Veritas at the end of the scheme?

Whilst there is no contractual obligation to work for Bureau Veritas at the end of your apprenticeship, we hope that you choose to continue to progress in your career with us as a valued member of our team.
