Building Control

Building Regulations in the UK are complex and with new legislation comes new regulations. Keeping up with the latest requirements can be a difficult and time-consuming task for any construction company. Furthermore, Building Regulation approval is a mandatory process, which must be gained through a third-party.

As a result, construction companies are increasingly turning to an independent, third-party specialist to ensure expert interpretation and a consistent approach to the implementation of Building Regulations.

Bureau Veritas Building Control UK

Bureau Veritas Building Control UK (formerly HCD Building Control) combines technical expertise and market-leading systems with unrivalled industry experience to deliver building control services to some of the biggest names in construction. Through effective teamwork, a consistent approach and commitment to excellence, our solutions go beyond just compliance. We can help to reduce costs and manage risk throughout the building lifecycle, from design stages through to site inspections and final certification – whilst giving designers confidence that the project will comply with Building Regulations and all relevant legislation.

Bureau Veritas Building Control UK is licensed by the Government to advise on Building Regulations and to approve design and construction. Our credentials are demonstrated by our own accreditation, having gained independent certification of our quality, environmental and health and safety systems to ISO 9001:2008, ISO 14001: 2004 and BS OHSAS 18001:2007 requirements. We are part of the Bureau Veritas Group, a world leader in testing, inspection and certification services, with 400,000 clients worldwide and a global network of offices in 140 countries.

The benefits of Bureau Veritas Building Control UK:

Construction Risk Management

We believe that an effective and timely service can remove many if not all of the risks of building control approval. The provision of our dual Building Control / Fire Risk Assessment and management service will ensure that the complex fire strategy design philosophies that are established by the design team, are not misinterpreted by third party consultants at post construction stage.

Bureau Veritas Building Control UK is ideally placed to not only ensure that these original design philosophies are taken forward intact to facilitate legal occupation, but also to allow them to evolve where necessary to cater for the future changing needs of the end user.

Value Engineering in Construction

Incorporating value engineering as a core principle, we aim to arrive at a Building Control solution that saves money and time or provides our client with the maximum net lettable floor space thereby enhancing his investment.

Consistency of Approach

Offer a single point of contact wherever your project is located and aim to build a relationship with your design team to ensure that the Building Control process runs as smoothly as possible. This is enhanced by our national coverage.

Management of the Fire Authority Consultation

A hand in hand approach with the Fire Authority geared towards early approval significantly reduces risk. Bureau Veritas Building Control UK manage this interface as part of their service.

Proactive advice at Pre-Tender stage

Early involvement in the design team development process encourages dynamic and radical design solutions. We aim to provide a positive contribution to the development process and encourage an innovative thought process in the interpretation of the Regulations.  Consideration should be given to incorporating this early advice into the project planning.

We are not constrained by the timescales laid down for approval at a Local Authority. Our service will sympathetically address client requirements and meet the demands of the project. Our ultimate aim is to remove Building Control approval from the developers’ risk management equation.
