Wear Trails

An independent evaluation service to support fit, durability, use, comfort and overall customer satisfaction on a wide range of consumer products.

What is a wear trial?

Wear trial is an additional service offered by Bureau Veritas CPS which uses an independent evaluation service to support the legal, safe, quality and performance testing of a product.

We have an extensive database of over 500 trialists across both sexes, a range of sizes and all ages who wear and evaluate products for characteristics such as fit, durability, use, comfort and overall customer satisfaction.

Why should you conduct wear trials?

To support testing in a real situation for certain characteristics and assure your brand reputation. This may be at development stage or to monitor bulk production exercising due diligence.

Our independent wear trial service is designed to be flexible in approach. Trials can be generic or tailored and the output is to deliver extensive and impartial feedback.

Our retailers and manufacturers use the data we obtain to refine or adapt their product lines to give an increased level of consumer satisfaction. The wear trials support the traditional machine based testing provided by Bureau Veritas CPS, the results help our clients make critical decisions when purchasing new product lines for their stores.

Are wear trials limited to clothing?

The term wear trial is used for products that are used by consumers on a regular basis.

Bureau Veritas CPS can conduct wear trials on a range of product types which are in contact with consumers where wear and tear occurs. Therefore this isn’t just limited to apparel, we can also apply wear trials to accessories, home-ware, beauty products and much more....

What characteristics are checked?

Fit / Sizing

Many factors can affect the final production of an item, the stitching/glueing, the materials used and the overall design. When using one pattern for multiple materials and products, this often gives a fluctuation in the finished size. Our wear services give the best feedback on how accurate a product is sized and labelled, which allows for products to be altered at the manufacturing stage to give a true fit and size guide to the end consumer.

When a product is tested using machinery, the products are put through the usage of the products intended purpose. However this testing doesn’t always take into consideration the fluctuations of use and the real time scenarios a product can be exposed to. Wear trials are used to support machine testing by giving an additional option of real life experience of using a product for its intended purpose.

Every product is made for a specific purpose, however at the design stage not all products are fit for the intended use. Part of the wear trials are to test the product in the environment to which it is intended.

Comfort is one of the key tests which cannot easily be determined by machine testing, we look at specific criteria such as, the effect of certain textiles on the users skin, how comfortable a product is when the user is moving and the overall comfort when a product is worn for long periods of time.
