Taking health and safety to the next level - workshops

It is estimated that up to 80% of accidents are often attributed to human error. Whilst operating robust risk assessment and safety management systems do help to control work related risks, your employees and their safety behaviour are an essential element that is frequently overlooked. The HSE recognises the importance that human factors can play in helping avoid accidents and ill-health at work, but many businesses struggle to fully understand how they can successfully tackle human behaviour at work.

Both Rob Castledine and Thomas Quick were present and covered issues including how to understand what we mean by safety culture, the drivers behind safety culture and behavioural safety and Key stages in developing a behavioural approach to safety in the workplace.

6th November 2007 - Technical Advances in Emissions Reductions - IMechE Seminar
    London

Following on from 2006's successful seminar at which Dr Nick Ford of Bureau Veritas presented a paper outlining best practice techniques for the assessment of stack emissions, this year (2007) Jean-Michel Leygue of Bureau Veritas ECS presented a paper on “Controlling VOC Fugitive Emissions” at this years event.Concentrating on best available technologies and the future European Standard  prEN 15446 for evaluating VOC fugitive emissions on industrial plants this update shows how some of the technologies presented last year have developed.
Leading edge developments in emissions reduction and avoidance were also presented.
With increased pressure on companies to demonstrate the use of best available technology, there is a need to demonstrate that organisations are actively driving down the impact on both the local and global environment.
By sharing best practice in this field, engineers and technologists will be better armed to drive down their companies’ emissions. This will then minimise the impact engineering makes on the world around us and contribute to improving the bottom line as well.
In addition, we showcased our emissions reduction management capabilities, encompassing air quality, performance and permitting, GHG verification, noise, stack monitoring and fugitive emissions management.
