    Planning and Development Services

With an ever present demand for property and continued pressure to improve the air we breathe, the impact of developments on air quality is increasingly considered by local authorities and government bodies to be a fundamental part of the planning process.  Bureau Veritas can help developers to obtain planning approval by ensuring that the potential air quality impact of developments is suitably appraised and appropriate mitigation measures are considered where necessary.

Services to Local Authorities – Local Air Quality Management (LAQM)

We understand the increasing pressures put on local authorities to manage local air quality within tighter budgeting and personnel constraints.  Our expert consultants have a wealth of experience in all aspects of the LAQM process and have established working partnerships with a large number of individual authorities and regional local authority pollution groupings.

    Depositional Assessments for Habitat Protection

Industrial processes regulated under the new Environmental Permit regulations (incorporating the Pollution Prevention and Control (PPC) regulations) have a statutory duty to demonstrate that their operations have no adverse affects on areas protected for their vegetation and ecosystems under the Habitats Directive (1994).  Bureau Veritas continue to help many clients fulfil their obligation through the use of atmospheric deposition assessments and dispersion modelling.

    Chimney Height Calculation

In designing a stack or chimney, its height is critical.  It must be high enough to ensure adequate dispersal of emissions however a short chimney is desirable to minimise visual impact.  Bureau Veritas regularly help clients to calculate the minimal height permissible to mitigate against potential adverse air quality impacts.

     Dispersion Modelling for Industry

To fully understand the actual impact of emissions from point sources (e.g. stacks/chimneys) and fugitive releases, it is often necessary to conduct a dispersion modelling assessment.  Bureau Veritas are arguably the national experts in air quality modelling and use our range of modelling software and approaches to provide the most cost-effective solution to suit our client’s needs.
